zach pedroncelli, M*A*S*H

The film M*A*S*H was surprising in its controversial humor and how much sexual and racial jokes were used. It appealed to my taste because I take things like that very light heartedly but this film could be criticized greatly for that aspect. The funny thing about the film was because it’s based around military setting and battle fields yet the most exhilarating scene takes place on a football field. That scene in particular resembled the longest yard and the petty behaviors that take place in competitive circumstances which were then exaggerated. The free-hearted attitudes of the doctors made them ironic. When most people think of life and death situations and saving lives you don’t usually get that kind of personality that follows. I also found the witty personalities of many of the soldiers and doctors quiet amusing because that’s what made for the bulk of the humor.  One thing about the film is it lacked a full plot and overall a message that you could understand at the end of the film. It surpasses the whole underlying theme of war and ends up being full of emergency wound victims and sexual tension between a handful of the characters. The dialog is probably one of the only upsides to this film and kept it at a level that allowed me to watch the entire film. Overall it lacked what a movie essentially should have in a plot but introduced witty and controversial humor to amuse audiences.

  1. When I began writing my blog I also realized that the movie didn't have much in the way of a plot, but is instead composed of various "episodes," each containing its own unique plot. I thought it was an interesting way to go about making a movie, but it obviously worked as it was immensely popular when it was released and still is today.
