Monty Python's Life of Brian

One of Monty Python’s best. Life of Brian contains endless satirical comedy. The film is about a middle-aged Jewish man named Brian.  He was born the same night, and in the same town as Jesus Christ.  The Life of Brian takes place in the Roman Empire sect of Judea.  Brian lived with his mother and sold snacks at a Roman stadium.  One day he met the Judean Peoples Front (JPF) and joined a terrorist mission to over throw the Roman Empire.  The mission failed when the Judean Peoples Front met another group of terrorists in the Roman Palace. These foreign terrorists so happened to have the same plan as the JPF. Naturally, the two groups had begun to argue about who had developed their plans first. Then they killed one another.  Brian was the only survivor and was incarcerated after the tragedy.
After having heard of his arrest; Pilate requested to see him. Pilate had a horrid lisp that sent his centurions into uncontrollable laughter. During that time Brian was able to slip away back to the JPF hideout. The group was shocked to see him after they had already accepted his death.  Little did Brian know the Romans were hot on his trail. The centurions searched the safe haven and Brian was forced out the back window.  He fell to a lower ledge and knocked off a profit that was standing there. He began to preach nonsense in the prophet’s place to stay discrete from the Romans.  His audience listened. They began to follow him, after he departed from the ledge. Eventually the crowd grew and grew.  Brian was considered the messiah.  He tried to rid himself of this horde, but it seemed to just get larger.  He was picked up by the Romans due to his publicity and was sentenced to crucifixion.  When he is crucified, everyone he has ever loved abandons him.

The film poked fun at the Christian religion.  Brian’s followers were not very bright, and came up with any reason to claim Brian was the messiah.  In one scene Brian dropped his sandal trying to escape his followers.  One of them picked it up and claimed it was a sign to take off their shoes and follow him.

Life of Brian mocked the old Roman Empire’s governmental system.  Besides the leaders having lisps, the centurions seemed very stupid.

  1. Its hard to make a movie about religion especially a comedy! And its a funny trend how followers are not to bright.
