will success spoil rock hunter? Zach Pedroncelli

Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?
While watching this film I was reminded of the television series I used to watch titled mad men. In the series is portraits ad men who live and work in the most respectable and wealthy part of New York. Their stereotyped personalities were exactly like that of the movie Will success spoil rock hunter?. The head boss walks around as if no one else mattered who wasn’t in a lead position and rock struggled to figure out the newest slogan that would make it big. Another aspect was the role of the secretary in the both the series and the movie. They take on a prostitution type role by basically working and being paid to sleep with the ad man or head that they worked under. Rock escaped the stereo type by actually showing his compassion for his secretary and future wife. While watching this film I didn’t know what to make of Rita. Every time she was on the screen her beauty was definitely an attention grabber but couldn’t get over the crying gasps she would give every time she got excited. The plot to this story seemed to be very predictable because of the overwhelming personality of rock being too good hearted. Some of the scenes that stood out to me were the first encounter Rita and rock had as well as the encounters between rock and his boss. The connections were exact opposites by Rita’s being superficial wanting to make her boyfriend jealous and rock and the boss’s being genuine in there weird dreams of growing roses and raising chickens. I also thought the scene where rock’s secretary gets stuck in a strange position from over exertion added to the style of humor. The biggest standout in this film was media and the role it played. It both made fun of the fact that celebrities can be made overnight because of publicity and it really takes nothing to earn that attention. The quick role through on rock and the publicity including a degree from Harvard and marriage in the matter of about a day made for a witty dis on the media and its overwhelming publications. Overall this film was humorous but actually showed real life in a dumbed down fashion.
